Life Filled with Broken Hammers

I have a confession to make. I like Saturday Night Live. Not the most current version, but the older ones with Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd. You heard me. Sometimes we take life way too seriously. It’s good to laugh; I mean belly-laugh and risk looking foolish. I think it’s good for the soul and it’s certainly good for the mind.

You see, life is tough and life’s choices are tough but sometimes we make life tougher than it has to be. With that in mind, let me share a quote from Saturday Night Live’s Jack Handey and his segment called Deep Thoughts: “If you go through a lot of hammers each month, I don’t think it means you’re a hard worker. It may mean you don’t know how to hammer.”

Thanks Mr. Handey. Thank you for the reminder not to just hammer away at life and have nothing to prove for it but a bunch of sweat.

Don’t misunderstand. I want to be successful and make progress but can’t I also enjoy this journey called life at the same time? Psalm 16:11 puts it this way: “You made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”

So here’s to a day being filled with productivity, and wisdom, and joy. Here’s to a lot more fun in life. And here’s to you enjoying yourself today…and please…don’t let any of those folks with broken hammers drag you down.
